Are you juggling both CFP® and IAR CE this year? Here’s some good news that could save you valuable time and resources: Quest CE’s IAR CE courses can be applied for dual credit toward your CFP® certification. There are two primary pathways for obtaining dual credit between IAR CE and CFP® certification in Quest CE’s system and we’ll walk through both.
You Completed CFP® Courses (and now want IAR CE Dual Credit)
If you plan to complete your CFP courses first, it’s important to note that you can only apply IAR-approved courses. How will I know which are those? They will have “(IAR CE)” included in parentheses in the course title. If you do not see IAR CE in the course title, that means it is not approved for dual credit. To buy CFP CE, click here.
Important Note: The CFP Board’s Ethics CE Course, “CFP Board’s Revised Code and Standards” cannot be applied to IAR CE credit.
Fee Structure
There is a $5 fee for the additional certificate, in addition to a $3.00 fee NASAA charges to roster the credit.
- Certificate Fee: $5
- NASAA Roster Fee: $3
Your Completed IAR CE Courses (and now want CFP Dual Credit)
If you decided to take your IAR CE courses first through Quest CE’s pre-built packages, these courses also qualify for CFP dual credit. Before purchasing any individual courses, you can easily check their dual credit eligibility by clicking the ‘Dual Credit’ button next to each course in the IAR CE catalog.

Applying the Credit
After completing either your IAR or CFP exam, you’ll want to claim your dual credit. You can do this in one of two ways: either immediately after finishing the exam or within 30 days of completion. Here’s a guide to both processes.
Adding Dual Credit Immediately After Exam
Upon completing and passing your exam, you’ll see a large blue plus sign on your results screen as seen in the image below. Simply click this plus sign to view all available dual credit options for your completed exam.
From there, you’ll be presented with a selection of checkboxes next to eligible designations. Review the available options and select the checkboxes for the courses you wish to apply dual credit to. Once you’ve made your selections, click the “Add Credits” button to proceed to check out and complete the process.
Adding Dual Credit Later (Within 30 Days)
If you didn’t add dual credit immediately after your exam, don’t worry – you have up to 30 days to complete this process. To add dual credit later, start by logging into the Renaissance Portal. Look for the “Certificates” tab in the left-hand menu as shown below and click to view your past exams.
The system will display a list of all your completed exams, with eligible ones showing a “Dual Credit” button. When you find the exam, you want to apply dual credit to, click the “Dual Credit” button. You’ll then be able to select which designations you want to apply the credits to. After making your selections, click “Add Credits” and complete the checkout process.
Taking advantage of dual credit opportunities between CFP® and IAR CE requirements is a smart way to save both time and money. Whichever route you choose when applying dual credit, be sure to act within the 30-day window after completing your exam. Before purchasing any courses, use the ‘Dual Credit’ button feature to verify eligibility, and always maintain records of your dual credit applications for future reference.
