Quest CE heard the news firsthand at the 2026 NSCP National Conference: Washington state is adopting investment adviser representative continuing education (IAR CE) requirements beginning in 2027. Joseph Brady, Executive Director of the North American Securities Administrators Association (NASAA), shared the update during his October 27 keynote.
Washington joins the growing list of jurisdictions adopting NASAA’s IAR CE model rule. The requirement applies based on an investment adviser representative’s registration in the state, rather than the registration status of their investment advisory firm.
For more information on the IAR CE Model Rule, see our whitepaper, “Must-Know Facts About the IAR Continuing Education Model Rule.”
Beginning in 2027, IARs subject to Washington’s requirement must complete 12 continuing education credits annually, including:
- Six credits in Products and Practices
- Six credits in Ethics and Professional Responsibility
Washington’s first IAR CE reporting year begins January 1, 2027, with the first annual requirements due by December 31, 2027.
IARs who do not complete the required credits by year-end may have their registration renewed with a “CE inactive” status. Continued noncompliance can prevent registration renewal.
