The North American Securities Administrators Association (NASAA) has released important information regarding end-of-year Investment Adviser Representative (IAR) Continuing Education processing. Here’s what you need to know:

Key Dates and Deadlines

December 26, 2024: Final day for guaranteed 2024 CE roster processing

December 27-31, 2024: System will accept rosters but won’t be processed until January 2, 2025

January 2, 2025: System resumes processing

CE Status Impact on 2025 Registration

Single Year Deficiency

IARs who are only missing 2024 requirements and are in “Required” status will not lose their registration. Their status will temporarily change to “Approved Pending IAR CE” on January 2, 2025, and will automatically update once courses are processed.

Multiple Year Deficiency

IARs deficient for both 2023 and 2024 who are in “CE Inactive” status on December 26 will fail to renew on January 2. These IARs will need to submit a new Form U4 and seek registration again after completing their CE requirements.

Firm Notifications

Investment advisory firms can:

  • Generate reports at any time through IARD
  • Expect notification emails about at-risk IARs on:
  • October 17
  • November 21
  • December 5

Due to Form U4 limitations, which do not collect IAR email addresses, only IARs with FinPro accounts will receive direct email reminders about outstanding CE requirements. FinPro is a free tool owned by FINRA and available to all IARs and broker-dealer agents.
